How Instagram story view tracking works
When you watch an Instagram story while logged into your account, Instagram records your username in the story's viewer list. The account owner can swipe up on their own story to see a full list of everyone who has viewed it, along with the total view count.
This viewer list is available to the story owner for exactly 48 hours after the story was posted. After 48 hours, the story expires and the viewer list disappears — though the view count figure may remain in Instagram's backend analytics.
